With more than 90 percent of IT Decision Makers (ITDMs) betting big on enterprise mobility as the critical function for customer engagement, competitiveness and operational productivity in 2016, it is not surprising that we already see some interesting instances of enterprise mobility adoption in the business world. In fact, this has been the most marked trend shifts in the last six months.

In a Mobile First landscape, companies are shifting their focus from mobile applications to enterprise mobile applications. As Matt Calkins, CEO & President of Appian aptly puts it:

“IT professionals understand that a strategic focus on mobile apps will fail to deliver the full digital transformation that must occur within the enterprise.”

Clearly, enterprise mobility is the rising sun of business opportunities.

Here are the four latest stories on enterprise mobility adoption from the business world.

Vodafone & IBM collaboration

Currently, Vodafone is working internally to enhance enterprise mobility for their employees and customers. They have partnered with IBM to offer MobileFirst solutions to its enterprise clients as a part of expanding enterprise mobility offerings. This collaboration is aimed at accelerating mobile adoption among enterprise organizations in Netherlands.

Enhanced mobile capabilities mean enterprises will be benefitted on three vital fronts. Enhanced business processes, improved employees’ performance, and deeper customer engagement, all leading to overall growth for the company. The enterprise clients IBM’s MobileFirst will help Vodafone to fuel growth form their already existing client base (Ready Business), which includes communications solutions to help businesses become more innovative, collaborative and responsive to their customers and employees. The app will also help Vodafone managers to quickly access relevant content from their database, and prepare better for client meetings or sales discussions.


Ford has jumped on the enterprise mobility bandwagon with the announcement of FordPass app. The idea is a transition from an auto company to an “auto and mobility company”, declared Ford. The business logic is, Ford will not only sell vehicles, but also customer services through FordPass. Services are going to be a great business differentiator in the coming days. The better your services, the more successes your business will achieve. Ford is hopeful that what iTunes did for music fans, FordPass will do the same for car owners. Important thing to note here is that you don’t necessarily need to be a Ford car owner to be a member of FordPass. Which means this could be an excellent platform for relationship building with the existing customers and also attracting new customers. Members can talk to “FordGuides” 24 hours a day to find out more about Ford products or services, book an advance parking slot or call roadside assistance. Users of other vehicles can also use this app; this mobility features can become a part of users’ lives to conduct several other cars related routine activities. Moreover, there will be a “Marketplace” of related services that offers ride sharing, car sharing, and multimodal transportation planning. FordPass will start in April, this year.


Taking cue from UBER, Ola has also launched enterprise mobility services for corporate travelers.  Named as “Ola Corporate” this enterprise solution targets the corporate folks of India Inc. The services are available in 102 Indian cities at a fraction of cost of the regular service. Corporate travelers will have a wide range of mobility use case at a fraction of the cost as against the existing scheduled corporate travel options, along with benefits of a centralized, paperless billing system. Corporate customers can book the Ola cabs as and when required and pay from their company’s centralized pre-paid account. The mobility benefit here is the time savings while waiting for a scheduled transport. From an ETA of 30 mins, it had come down to less than 5 min, a substantial reduction in waiting time. Not only that, with this app corporate folks don’t need to apply for transport reimbursement with their companies. This reduces redundancies and improve business productivity.

SKS Microfinance

Microfinance is one of the most potent tool in combating poverty, especially in rural areas.  But rural areas have their own set of peculiar problems, as SKS Microfinance, a Hyderabad based Indian Microfinance Company, was wasting lot of time in data collections as connectivity was a big issue in far flung remote rural areas. A manager would have to travel to villages with pile of papers for collecting data, and after that he has to entered all the data in in his branch. This involve a tedious, and heap of paper-based data processing. This led company to adopt for an offline mobility solution where loan officers were provided with Samsung tablets under a project called SMART TAB.  Under this project, 7000 tablets were provisioned and deployed across rural and semi-rural areas, aided by help desk to assist loan officers for device management and an offline MDM (Master Data Management) solution from IBM, developed in partnership with Volksof Technologies, a local player. This has boost the productivity of the bank with substantial reduction in turnaround time and other additional costs.

The most important thing is that enterprise mobility is transforming the way every industry does business; be it IT services, cab services, automotive or microfinance.
